Positioning A Construction Barge At A Platform Having Eight Anchors.

(Anchor Handling Procedures will nearly same for other barges like Accommodation, Derrick, Pipelay barges etc, when at a platform. One or Two AHT may be deployed)

This Is An Example Of Practical Anchor Handling Operation.

hese procedures can be modified as necessary after discussions with Tow Master, Barge Master and other interested parties.

The Vessels

An Anchor Handling Tug Boat (AHT) will be required to position the Construction Barge on location at ABC Platform in North Field Qatar for a company Expansion Project.

Anchor Handling Procedures

Arrival on Location.

The limitation for Anchoring is 5 feet maximum seas or 7 feet or more forecast.

The tow will make for a position outside the proposed location in the field. The Construction Barge will drop anchor S4 and disconnect the tow bridle if the above criteria are met.

From Anchoring Location To Stand Off Position (300 meters off platform)

Before leaving the anchoring location the AHT will connect the pennant of anchor S4 and will keep the anchor under her roller.

Construction Barge will drop anchor S1 at the designated position as per the approved anchor pattern and the anchor will be pre-set.

AHT will tow the Construction Barge to the standoff position, run anchor S4 and drop at the designated position as per the approved anchor pattern.

Now, AHT will run anchor P1, S2, S3 and P2 and drop the anchors at the designated position as per the approved anchor pattern.

Anchor P4 will be disconnected from the anchor wire. The anchor wire will be passed to AHT and she will take it and connect it to soft line, which will be connected to the platform leg.
Anchor P3 is crossing the 38” existing pipeline and will have 2 Nos DP buoys to keep the anchor wire from chaffing the existing pipeline.

The AHT will take anchor P3 and buoy on her deck.

The DP buoys will be connected at distances of 300m and then 550 m (300+250 m) from the anchor.

The AHT will take the anchor P3, run and drop anchor P3 at the designated position as per the approved
anchor pattern.

The above anchors will be tested at 25 tons for approx. 10 minutes.

Shifting from Stand off Positon to the Final Position at the ABC Platform.

AHT will be connected to the starboard side of the Barge with engines on stand by, to pull the Barge away from the platform, if necessary.

The Barge will be pulled in with the stern anchors and then positioned to final position 10 to 20 meters from ABC platform depending on gangway positioning.

Retrieval Of Anchors

For picking up the anchors, the following sequence will be followed:

- The Barge will be pulled out to a position 50m-55 m from the platform.

- Anchor P4 soft line will disconnected and recovered and the workers from the platform taken back on board.

- The Barge will be pulled out to the standoff position 350 m away from the platform.

- AHT will pick up P3 anchor on her deck and secure it on the deck. The Barge will recover anchor P3. The DP buoys will be recovered as they come on board. Then the anchor will be recovered.

 - The Barge will recover with anchors S3, S2, P2 and P1.

- AHT will connect anchor S4 and the Barge will shorten to 200 m, meanwhile recover S1 and rack it.

- AHT will begin towing the Barge out of the field with anchor S4.

- Once the Barge is well clear of the field and all offshore installations, the AHT will drop anchor S4 , and connect the main towing bridle.

- AHT will then recover anchor S4 and rack it.

- AHT will start tow to the next location for next jobs of the project.
