A BPO career revolves
around the core activity of delivering business process outsourcing services.
This involves voice (telephone) and non-voice (email, chat) based customer
interaction services, transaction processing, telemarketing, technical support
or analyzing of customer specific data. It also involves back-end jobs such as
claims processing and processing of finance & accounting transactions.
Business process
outsourcing jobs are increasingly being sent by American firms to the low pay
nations. Nation to register the highest growth in BPO jobs is India. Most of
the Call Center jobs are now moving to the countries like India, Philippines,
Russia, Mexico, and Canada where cost is low which is huge savings for the
companies outsourcing.
As the current sources
of revenue are facing slower growth, software companies are trying new ways to
increase their revenues. BPO is top on their list today. IT services companies
are making a more entries into the BPO sector on the strength of their existing
set of clients. Now Call centers job are selected more as a career option than
as a temporary job and is one of the most preferred careers in India. And the
good news is that the Call center industry is booming and companies are in
hiring mode.
Now Call centers are
very specific and only 5% of the candidates interviewed are finally selected
the remaining 95% of the candidates have to upgrade themselves up to the
industry standards. Because of its vast English speaking population, India has
become an ideal marketplace for outsourcing US workload through business
process outsourcing. English is a popular and well spoken language here.
Indians learn English as their second language and are familiar with it. But
speaking the global language is not the sole reason for this choice.
Manpower in India is
relatively cheaper than America, so America saves costs and benefits from the
same by outsourcing its work to India. Call center units are not very demanding
as far as qualifications and prerequisites are concerned. Most call center jobs
require a basic understanding of computers and a good grasp over English. The
urban youth of India are computer literate graduates with a command over
English language. And call center industry is looking for such ideal candidates.
